Open Letter Regarding Storm Damage

Dear Hardin County Fair Community,

We’re just as devastated with the destruction at the fairgrounds caused by a serious weather event. First and foremost, we’re so glad that Randy, our dedicated caretaker that lives on the fairgrounds, is not injured. Neither is his house. We’re most grateful for that.

The Machinery Building, Poultry & Rabbit Building, Hardin County Cattle Producers Steak Barn, Arts & Crafts Building, Hardin County Pork Producers Building, Maintenance Shop, Roundhouse, Grandstand, Goshen Barn and Youth and Ag Center have all taken at least some damage, with the most serious being the Machinery Building. Several power lines and poles are also down. As a result of all of this, the Hardin County Fairgrounds will remain closed. Our team is working remotely to answer voicemails and emails.

We are overwhelmed in the best way possible by the outpouring of support from the Hardin County community as well as 4-H Clubs and FFA Chapters eager to assist in the cleanup. Our first step is to let our insurance folks do their jobs while our teams work to make sure the fairgrounds is safe. Hold onto that passion, as there will be plenty of opportunities to assist in cleanup once its safe and we’re ready.

Make no mistake, we will have a Hardin County Fair this year. We will rebuild. Things may just look a little different for awhile.

Sincerely,

Jake McFadden & the Hardin County Fair Board
